For years people have flocked to the English Lake District, and no surprise! The elegance of this area has been realized by the award of status of National Park. Indeed, the English Lakes was one of the introductory national parks in England. But this citation has been a problem in many ways — without doubt it has protected the lakes from commercial development, but it has also attracted millions of visitors each year. Accommodating these thousands of tourists is now a massive problem, and nowhere is this more acute than in the provision of good quality hotel accommodation. I suppose that when you take a positive view, we can all be thankful that so much hotels is available — the Lake District is never faced with the challenge of visitors driving around hopelessly trying to find somewhere to stay! From the point of view of the visitor, the multitude of hotels in Lake District is a godsend. The variety of Lake District motels ranges from tiny, exclusive, romantic hotels with Michelin starred eateries to delightful hostels suitable for parents and kids to enjoy a holiday together at a very low rate in a family room. It’s true to say that over the years I’ve enjoyed many of Lake District accommodation and I’ve only rarely been let down; especially in recent years, Lake District lodgings have been largely refurbished and now offer a very high standard of accommodation indeed.
